From Commercials to Features

If you are a fan of Transformers, you can thank Neill Blompkamp for sparking the interest and paving the way for that movie to be created. With his Citroen “Alive with Technology” campaign, he showed many people how to bring a car to life. He has also done memorable spots for both Nike and Adidas, working mostly by himself. Not only are ideas for major motion pictures coming from commercials, but along with them up and coming directors. Neill Blompkamp’s first feature film, District 9, produced by Peter Jackson is set for release this September.

Blompkamp’s first project, Halo, was shutdown after studio heads at Fox and Universal could not find common ground on how to go about filming the multi-million dollar cideo game franchise.  Blompkamp is obsessed with deconstruction, and making things look worse and worse, bringing them closer to a docu-style than the clean sci-fi flicks we are so used to seeing this past decade.
