RED Pro Primes Review

RED Pro Primes Review

We have finally got our hands on the the new RED pro primes and had a chance to test them on a couple different cameras. The first thing we noticed is the weight and structure. These things are heavier than the Zeiss Master Primes and very comparable to the Cooke S4’s we’ve played with in the past. This will add to the overall weight of the camera and make handheld shots a little more difficult after a while. The structure is much more robust and easier to use than either the Cooke or Zeiss lenses, making them a better match for use outside of the studio.
What really matters is how these lenses performed. They exceeded all our expectations. The depth of field was amazing and very comparable to the S4’s. The color was almost unnoticeably duller than the bright Master Primes.
These lenses come in at $19,995 for the set of five, and at that price, if you can afford a set of Professional primes these are your best bet, even over the more expensive Zeiss and Cooke lenses.
